Project description
The purpose of this project was to improve the legal and institutional framework for data protection in accordance with best EU practices. This aims to ensure individuals can effectively exercise their data protection rights by aligning national regulations with reformed EU data protection acquis and best practices, enhancing cooperation with data controllers and processors, strengthening mechanisms for personal data protection in various areas, developing and implementing a data protection strategy and implementing ISO IT and privacy standards.

Objective
The overall objective of the project is to enhance personal data protection in Macedonia, aligning it with international and EU standards.
Implementation
Services provided included assessing and developing data protection strategies, establishing monitoring mechanisms, supporting Privacy ISO Audits, creating a web tool for complaints, upgrading the DPDP website, preparing comprehensive reports, and organizing extensive training programs. All the way cooperating with local governments and NGOs for public awareness.
Result
Upon successful completion our team implemented the Strategy for Personal Data Protection 2012-2016, followed by an Action Plan, and developed the Strategy for 2017-2022. The finished project strengthened capacities for implementing the Law on personal data protection and improved cooperation with controllers and also set up ISO standardization for the information security system in DPDP.
